Rant about English Classes

It is a truth universally acknoledged that the study of english is essentially the study of how to bullshit everything.

I am currently taking a class about Jane Austen novels and films. Seems like a good concept, right? Wrong. Not so good for history majors who are good at working with facts and reasonable-ness. In this class i have discovered that first of all, i am not very good at writing english papers, and second, people say the strangest things. Because the study of literature puts a lot into personal interpretation (as long as it is not completely absurdly off topic wrong), people make up the craziest thing. I am not even sure they believe it. My friend (an english major) and i sit in class twice a week, listening to this absurdity, and i just cannot get my head around it. When they say the size of the plants reflects social status, i say they wanted to have a pretty garden and it just worked out that they were standing in front of different sized plants. I just find that overanalysing things gets to be ridiculous. Especially when you present on different views of marriage (real life and movie), and then say that Charlotte and Mr. Collins have a more real life marriage! They do not even love each other! In fact, i am pretty sure Charlotte finds him bloody creepy! And to say that Darcy and Elizabeth's marriage is more movie is not wrong, but do not say that it would not work in real life. They are in love and they would make it work.

Phew. Seriously, just remind me never to take english classes again. I do not think i can handle it. Especially since it brings down my GPA.
Like really, look at that. Who could be happy with that creepy, creepy Mr. Collins?! Elizabeth is probably thinking, "Poor Charlotte... I warned you... He is ridiculous!"
