After thinking that i was not going to be able to see The Hunger Games Movie until schools was over, I am proud to say that i did my magic and squeezed it in. Who needs to pre-order tickets when you can show up 2 hours before a show, buy tickets in a 'filling fast' show, and manage to be second in the line waiting to go in?! My sister, her boyfriend and I went yesterday after his midterm because i had written enough of my paper to feel comfortable enough to stop working. We got perfect seats right in the middle at a perfect height. Considering where i sat at the Harry Potter 7 pt 2 premiere (front section on the right), these seats were fantastic.
The trailers that played before the movie were great. I am not a huge fan of the spiderman movies, but this new one (Amazing Spiderman) with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone makes me want to see it! The new G.I.Joe movie looks great and I can't wait to see that! There was a trailer for this movie called The Cabin in the Woods with Chris Hemsworth that looks alright but i probably won't watch it because I don't really like horror movies. They also showed the trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer, which looks crazy and i really want to see it! Such a unique spin on historical events! Another one they showed was What to Expect When You're Expecting, which looked absolutely hilarious. Definitely one to see. I'm pretty sure that was all the trailers that were shown, so a pretty good lot. I am really excited for the movies coming out this summer!

The Hunger Games started off with a little history as to why the games are put on and then got right into Reaping Day with Katniss and her sister. The movie was great. Right from the start it was emotional, powerful, intense. I wanted to cry watching Prim scream after her sister. It was awesome seeing the change from District 12's Depression era set up to the Capitol's fututistic, over the top fanciness. The citizens of the Capitol were amazing. Dressed in crazy colors with bright hair and make up... The craziness i imagined while reading brought to life. Everything the tributes wore while they were in the Capitol was beautiful.

And then we got to the arena. You realize just how violent the book was when you watch the movie. It was awesome watching Cato fight with his sword, Clove's knife throwing skills... The careers were ridiculous. And then Rue... Oh Rue. What a wonderful character. Also, it was sooo cool watching the behind the scenes of the games, how the people would just create something on a grid and it would happen. The muttations... holy crap i jumped out of my seat even though i expected it. And the end was wonderful. President Snow was great, i love Donald Sutherland. He was the perfect amount of looking like a good person, etc, and then being a total badass. I can't wait to see more of him in the next movies!
Overall, I was very happy with the movie! They followed the book so well and did the best job possible. Yeah, some things were omitted, but it was not the end of the world. The whole essence of the book was there. Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss was such a good choice. I was hesitant at first, but she covered my expectations and more. She is so great with emotional scenes and showing fear... She is such a great actress. I cannot wait until Catching Fire is released! If you have not read the books, then get on it and read them! The movie is soo much better than it already is if you have the background from the books.
May the odds be ever in your favour!
