Day 26: Key

A key chain with no key. I got this keychain in venice, italy! The reason there is no key is because i don't really have keys. I don't have a key to my house and i don't have a car yet.

Day 24: An Animal

Or two... These are my two dogs, Chinook and Kona. I believe Chinook is a 17 year old Border Collie - he is my step dads dog, used to be a ranch dog before a cow rolled onto him. Kona is my 10 year old Shetland Sheepdog. He is my baby! I have had him since he was 1 years old and is the first pet i have ever had that was not a fish! Both dogs are deaf and it makes for some very hilarious times.

Movie: The Hunger Games (possible spoilers?)

After thinking that i was not going to be able to see The Hunger Games Movie until schools was over, I am proud to say that i did my magic and squeezed it in. Who needs to pre-order tickets when you can show up 2 hours before a show, buy tickets in a 'filling fast' show, and manage to be second in the line waiting to go in?! My sister, her boyfriend and I went yesterday after his midterm because i had written enough of my paper to feel comfortable enough to stop working. We got perfect seats right in the middle at a perfect height. Considering where i sat at the Harry Potter 7 pt 2 premiere (front section on the right), these seats were fantastic.

The trailers that played before the movie were great. I am not a huge fan of the spiderman movies, but this new one (Amazing Spiderman) with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone makes me want to see it! The new G.I.Joe movie looks great and I can't wait to see that! There was a trailer for this movie called The Cabin in the Woods with Chris Hemsworth that looks alright but i probably won't watch it because I don't really like horror movies. They also showed the trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer,  which looks crazy and i really want to see it! Such a unique spin on historical events! Another one they showed was What to Expect When You're Expecting, which looked absolutely hilarious. Definitely one to see. I'm pretty sure that was all the trailers that were shown, so a pretty good lot. I am really excited for the movies coming out this summer!

The Hunger Games started off with a little history as to why the games are put on and then got right into Reaping Day with Katniss and her sister. The movie was great. Right from the start it was emotional, powerful, intense. I wanted to cry watching Prim scream after her sister. It was awesome seeing the change from District 12's Depression era set up to the Capitol's fututistic, over the top fanciness. The citizens of the Capitol were amazing. Dressed in crazy colors with bright hair and make up... The craziness i imagined while reading brought to life. Everything the tributes wore while they were in the Capitol was beautiful.

And then we got to the arena. You realize just how violent the book was when you watch the movie. It was awesome watching Cato fight with his sword, Clove's knife throwing skills... The careers were ridiculous. And then Rue... Oh Rue. What a wonderful character. Also, it was sooo cool watching the behind the scenes of the games, how the people would just create something on a grid and it would happen. The muttations... holy crap i jumped out of my seat even though i expected it. And the end was wonderful. President Snow was great, i love Donald Sutherland. He was the perfect amount of looking like a good person, etc, and then being a total badass. I can't wait to see more of him in the next movies!

Overall, I was very happy with the movie! They followed the book so well and did the best job possible. Yeah, some things were omitted, but it was not the end of the world. The whole essence of the book was there. Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss was such a good choice. I was hesitant at first, but she covered my expectations and more. She is so great with emotional scenes and showing fear... She is such a great actress. I cannot wait until Catching Fire is released! If you have not read the books, then get on it and read them! The movie is soo much better than it already is if you have the background from the books.

May the odds be ever in your favour!

The Hunger Games movie comes out on friday, which would be very exciting, except that i don't know when i am going to get to go see it. I am swamped with papers, have a group presentation to do on tuesday that we have barely worked on and then i have finals. I still haven't decided if i am going to take a spring course. I don't know when i am going to have time to go to the theatre! Maybe i will force myself to go see the movie after my first final. Yeah, I'll just wait a month before i see it and die because of all the spoilers that will be everywhere. Ughh!

Books I Need To Buy

Lots of books have come out in this new year, but i have put off going to a bookstore and buying them because i either have had no time or i wanted to save money. There are also a ton of books coming out in early May that i am looking forward too! About mid-way through May, I am likely going to make a trip to my Chapters and buy a lot of books!

1. Pandemonium (Delirium #2) by Lauren Oliver

There are also a bunch of other books that have come out in the past year or so that i have been waiting to buy, because i did not know if i would get them as physical copies or ebooks. I'll probably check those out too and finally make decisions so i can read them!

Hello, Stress

March is probably the worst month ever. It is the month that i spend all of my time in the library, researching and writing because i have multiple papers due by the end of the month. I also have a group presentation to do and no time to prepare it.

April is just as stressful. More papers are do, especially an english one that i have no clue how to do. Then classes are done and i have 4 finals to write. in the last 2 weeks. I also turn 20 in april. Oh, and i somehow have to make sure i have enough work laid out for the summer so i can pay for school later.

Crazy stress time.

Day 12: Fork

We had some forks left over from a sleepover party so i just did this as a last minute thing. Not feeling to good so i did not get to do what i really wanted to do, which was capture a fork in the road. Something naturey. But with school and sickness, that did not happen.

Update: Food Poisoning?

This past weekend was probably the greatest waste of time ever. I took saturday off from homework, assuming i would have the entirety of sunday to work on my research paper. Let's just say I am glad i started my research early, because i did absolutely nothing. The majority of my day on sunday was spent curled up into the fetal position, trying to sleep. From midnight on saturday all the way until 3 pm sunday, I did this, waking up roughly every hour to use the bathroom. The extreme agony in my stomach and bladder area was hard to explain and it also made me have to go pee a lot. I had hoped it was simply indigestion or something along those lines. Even a reaction to the ice cream would have been fine, since i have had a history of being slightly lactose intolerant. While i think it was the ice cream that did it to me, it is something totally different. My sister and her boyfriend had commented that the ice cream from DQ had tasted off, but mine had minty flavoring so i couldn't really discern a difference. I finished my ice cream and was fine until i went to bed. Then i began to feel the pain. On sunday night, my sister told me she had been sick (#2, common as she is lactose intolerant) and her boyfriend had been as well, for most of the morning (he had eaten his entire blizzard as well as some of my sisters). There is no way we are all lactose intolerant, so there had to be something wrong with the ice cream. So i have settled on food poisoning as the cause of my pain, even though i haven't thrown up. The fact that i haven't thrown up is the reason why i ruled out stomach flu, because when i had that in the summer, i threw up within a couple hours of my first symptoms. I am not very happy with DQ right now.

I wanted desperately to sleep all day today as well, but being the good student i am, i got up to go to class. What pissed me off is that my first class was a writing seminar, which is something i do not need. I have written multiple research papers and every history class in my two years here has done a seminar. My other class was a guest lecture though, so it is good that i came for that. Now, because i missed yesterday to work on my paper, i am doing it now, suffering through my stomach pains. Wonderful right?

If the pain continues, i will definitely be heading to the doctor. I have a ton of other things to talk to her about anyways.

New Show: Firefly

By new, i mean i just started watching it, because obviously this show is ten years old.

Firefly was a 2002 show from Joss Whedon that brings us to a time 500 years into the future, after the earth was used up and human civilization was moved to a new galaxy with multiple planets. There are the central planets, forming the Alliance, that fought a war against the independents to unite and control the entire galaxy. The Alliance won, and this brings us to Serenity, a firefly model ship that is captained by Malcom Reynolds, a former Independence Sergent, and his team. Throughout the season, we follow the team as they carry out jobs to get paid and support their ship. Serenity is also home to a preacher and a brother-sister genius team, who just so happen to be wanted fugitives.

I started watching this show because I adore Nathan Fillion from his role on Castle and I had heard it was really good. I am just over halfway through the season and I understand why people love it! It is witty, packed with enough action, and has good plot lines. My plan is to finish the season and then watch the movie. It is very sad that it was so short, but I am glad I got to experience it, even though i am a decade late!

Day 4: Bedside

My bedside table! I absolutely adore my old time radio alarm clock! I've got my wonderful iPad, my lamp and my water cup for when i get thirsty. I've got my Tropical Spice candle from Bath and Body Works that i have not even burned yet because i can't find any matches or lighters. Then there is my bamboo plant, my poor poor bamboo. I bought it when i lived in residence last year to bring some color into my drab dorm. Sometime along the way, it sort of died and now it is kind of a semi-dead thing. I don't have the heart to throw it away though.

Nail Time! (1)

I've recently started painting my nails at least once a week and i really enjoy tweeting it so my friends can see while they still look good. I'm going to start doing blog posts whenever i paint my nails as well!

After a long week of school, i decided that i would dedicate some time on my friday night to do my nails. I got these two polishes around christmas time and i am absolutely addicted. Gold is probably my favorite nail color and i love sparkles.

The polish i used on all of my nails is Keep Me on My Mistletoes from Sephora by OPI. I just cannot get enough of this polish. I think that for most of january, it is the only thing i wore.

The polish i used on my ring finger is Looks Like Rain, Dear from Sephora by OPI. This sparkly beauty was a christmas gift from one of my nail polish obsessed friends. It is the prettiest thing in the world and can be dressed up or down.

This is the finished product! These polishes are actually really good quality and they stay nice for a couple days before there are any ridiculous chips. You can get them for $12 from Sephora, which i think is a bit of a stretch, but for this kind of quality, buying them once in a while is perfectly fine!

Rant about English Classes

It is a truth universally acknoledged that the study of english is essentially the study of how to bullshit everything.

I am currently taking a class about Jane Austen novels and films. Seems like a good concept, right? Wrong. Not so good for history majors who are good at working with facts and reasonable-ness. In this class i have discovered that first of all, i am not very good at writing english papers, and second, people say the strangest things. Because the study of literature puts a lot into personal interpretation (as long as it is not completely absurdly off topic wrong), people make up the craziest thing. I am not even sure they believe it. My friend (an english major) and i sit in class twice a week, listening to this absurdity, and i just cannot get my head around it. When they say the size of the plants reflects social status, i say they wanted to have a pretty garden and it just worked out that they were standing in front of different sized plants. I just find that overanalysing things gets to be ridiculous. Especially when you present on different views of marriage (real life and movie), and then say that Charlotte and Mr. Collins have a more real life marriage! They do not even love each other! In fact, i am pretty sure Charlotte finds him bloody creepy! And to say that Darcy and Elizabeth's marriage is more movie is not wrong, but do not say that it would not work in real life. They are in love and they would make it work.

Phew. Seriously, just remind me never to take english classes again. I do not think i can handle it. Especially since it brings down my GPA.
Like really, look at that. Who could be happy with that creepy, creepy Mr. Collins?! Elizabeth is probably thinking, "Poor Charlotte... I warned you... He is ridiculous!"

:)
